Jashby – Lose Your Disguise

October 15, 2012 by Amos Wellings

Hey all. My very talented friend Jessica Ashby has just uploaded and released a cover version of my own original song, “Lose Your Disguise”. I originally wrote the track in July 2011, and have played it countless times since then, so you can imagine how refreshing it is to hear a different interpretation of the piece. Be sure to watch the video below, and check her out on Facebook to hear some other originals and covers.

Raindrop Hearts!

July 27, 2012 by Amos Wellings

Update (07/08/2012): I didn’t end up releasing this song last week. I’ve decided to postpone releasing it indefinitely, as there are a few cool things I came up with at the last minute that will result in this song being significantly better than the version you almost heard. Apologies to the one or two people who may have noticed I was even going to release this. It’s for the best!

A few nights ago, I played a live set at The Great Northern Hotel, and included two brand new songs in my set, “Raindrop Hearts” and “The Gallery”. The latter song is one that I have really loved since writing it, and was extremely keen to play it live. The former, however, was a song that I felt had potential, but it wasn’t taking shape. I almost didn’t play it, but on the day of the performance, I quickly wrote an ending to it so I’d have something to work with.

During the actual performance of “Raindrop Hearts”, the song really took shape, and I felt way more inspired with it than any other time I’ve worked on it. The following day, I spent a few hours laying down keyboard and guitar tracks, and sequenced a demo version together. I later added vocals, and mixed everything together, primarily just to add to the pile of demos I was accumulating to work with for my album. However, I decided I might as well polish the hell out of it and release it as a single. Admittedly, I’ll probably do more work on it before its release as part of my forthcoming album, but I am currently quite proud of it and feel like sharing it around.

I’ll be releasing it through Bandcamp this upcoming Wednesday (August 1st), essentially as a free download, but if you felt so inclined to throw a dollar my way, I’ve put the “pay what you want” option there. All money sent to me will go directly to my album fund.

Lose Your Disguise (Split-Screen Video)

Hello friends! Sorry I’ve been a bit quiet lately. I’ve been busy with overseas trips, as well as a bunch of new tunes I’ve been working on. Here’s something different though! This is essentially a single-take recording of “Lose Your Disguise”, a song I wrote in 2011 and included on my free promotional sampler EP. I filmed it from the side as per normal, but also set up my iPad in front of me and used its front camera to get a second angle for the video. Edited them side by side, as well as a higher-quality recording from my Zoom H4n, and voila!

Why? Primarily because I had no original songs on YouTube, and didn’t feel like simply uploading old recordings, especially since all you’d see is a boring still image. I didn’t particularly want to put a brand new song up just yet as I’m still yet to make sure I’m totally happy with them, but I had made a few modifications to this track since releasing it last year, and thought it’d be interesting to share.

Enjoy! Stay tuned for new tracks and live dates.
